Sundancer
To complement our popular flights out to the Great Barrier Reef - Air Whitsunday is proud to provide an ideal harmonious balance; combining a top-class seaplane experience with a two hour outing on our privately-owned and operated semi-submersible, located inside Hardy Lagoon.
Nestled amidst the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park – it is the ONLY pontoon moored within this protected coral suspended lagoon.
Sundancer provides our base for the coral viewing and snorkelling components of both our signature Panorama and Reef Adventure tours.
Once we transfer you from the comfort of your aircraft, step aboard Sundancer, where our pilots transform into experienced coxswains and knowledgeable reef guides; offering you a wealth of information on all aspects of coral formation and varying marine species that you might encounter during your visit here.
Our semi-submersible has an underwater viewing chamber; allowing you a great vantage point in which to view the myriad of fish life and coral formations. It also provides sun and shade deck areas with easy access into the water.
Once educated, you will then have the opportunity to step into the temperate waters for the perfect snorkelling opportunity. This is one of the most popular pastimes while visiting the Great Barrier Reef and because we only access the reef on a low tide, it serves to provide the brightest colours and lighting and offers the first-time snorkeler the confidence to experience the reef in shallower waters.
Sundancer is surveyed to hold a maximum of 22 passengers at any one time (including pilots); highlighting the fact that our tours cater to a small, personalized and very niche market – ensuring your needs are met personally and your experience is an unforgettable one.
All your snorkelling equipment is provided on board; however we are more than happy if you wish to provide your own. We also carry flotation devices to assist with buoyancy and comfort for the less confident swimmer and our pilots are happy to assist in any way they can.
With the ever increasing popularity of our reef tours we hope to introduce a second submersible Coral Dancer to this location in the very near future.
With a lot of education and providing a greater awareness our aim is to preserve the natural state of the reef in order to provide a far greater opportunity for future generations to witness this natural wonder for years to come.
